World Series Opener

By Fred Wallace

Here we go, almost Halloween, and the World Series begins tonight.

Baseball just doesn't get it. Or maybe they do, but the TV contracts won't allow them to do the right thing.

Regardless, the Yankees open at home tonight against the Phillies in Game 1 of the Fall Classic.

How about the pitching matchup ? Cliff Lee vs C.C. Sabathia.

How does a Cleveland fan feel, knowing that within the last two years these two Cy Young candidates and World Series starters were with the Indians.

You likely hate your team for letting them go.

Or you hate baseball for the economic state that paved the road for these two to depart from the Tribe.

All I can think about is Bill Murray in that great movie " Meatballs ". You can substitute the Yankees and Phillies for the dreaded Camp Mohawk

The World Series matters, of course, just not as much as it did before when baseball, not business, was the priority and the World Series didn't extend into November.

I'm Fred Wallace
