Bluewater Bonanza

By Fred Wallace

There's certainly a glut of high school sports these days.

The highlight yesterday was an amazing rally in Bluewater Football by the St Mary's Mustangs.

Trailing the OSCVI Falcons 6-0 with about 2 minutes to play, McKenzie Santin returned a punt 43 yards for the go ahead score.

After the Falcons went 3 & out, Jesse Borges clinched it for the Mustangs with another TD and St Mary's won 14-6.

With the victory, St Mary's finishes 3 & 2 and it's conceivable, based on today's potential results that the Mustangs, Grey Highlands and the West Hill Raiders will all have 3 & 2 final marks and finish in a 3 way tie behind the Saugeen District Royals.

The playoffs start next week.

Meanwhile in the Bluewater Junior Soccer League, the final standings have been tabulated and the Boys Final Four is set for Tuesday at Flesherton while the Girls Final Four is Thursday at West Hill in Owen Sound.

A couple of other high school sports notes for today.

In Walkerton, the Senior Lady Raiders Classic Girls Basketball Tournament begins this afternoon plus, as you might expect with sloppy weather in the forecast, the Bluewater District Cross Country Championship is @ Hepworth.

Bluewater is also the host district for the CWOSSA Championship next Thursday.

Have a great weekend.
