Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Last week, the Canadian Lacrosse Association made the difficult decision to cancel all of their 2020 National Championships.
This hit hard at the C.L.A. level and everywhere the game is played, including Owen Sound, maybe especially Owen Sound.
The people that play and govern lacrosse are extremely passionate about the sport, so you can imagine the cancellation of a dozen National Championships is tough to deal with.
Among the National Tournaments to be wiped out were both the Presidents Cup for the Canadian Senior Lacrosse Championship and the Founders Cup for the Canadian Junior B Lacrosse Championship.
The cancellation of the Presidents Cup was mostly an aftershock in these parts as the Ontario Series, including the Owen Sound Bug Juice Senior NorthStars, had previously indicated there would be no competition this season.
No regular season. No playoffs for the Levack Trophy. And now, officially, no President's Cup.
I think it's obvious the Junior B group will follow suit, yet on the agenda tomorrow is a Zoom Conference for the Junior B clubs.
The Founder's Cup scheduled for this August at Brampton is cancelled, so in my view, the meeting and ultimate decision should come quickly.
Of note, Brampton has been given the hosting rights for the Founders Cup next year.
Another item on the agenda tomorrow pertains to overage players, whether to have any, and if there are overagers in the future; how many ?
Lacrosse in many parts of the country is dormant today and tomorrow, I'm assuming the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League will call a halt to their 2020 activities.
