Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
The domino effect of cancelled events in our region picked up steam last week.
Among the annual events kiboshed by COVID-19 included the 11th annual Owen Sound Subaru Bayshore Race.
The Subaru Bayshore Race which has a variety of distances and divisions has operated for the past decade and has been a well-supported fundraiser for the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation and for health care across Grey and Bruce Counties.
Over the course of 10 years, the Subaru Bayshore Race has generated more than $ 370,000 which has been utilized for a variety of equipment needs at our hospitals.
For the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation, this cancellation was the second major fundraising blow in a week as the annual Cobble Beach Concours d'Elegance which also aids the Foundation was also scratched for 2020.
And while the loss of funds for the local Hospital Foundation is significant, it's unfortunately reflective of what's taken place, and continues to take place, in Owen Sound, in our broadcast region, across the province, from coast to coast in Canada and around the World.
Festivals, annual events, & fundraisers of all descriptions now dormant. Today and for how much longer ?
Quickly, for those that have pre-registered and paid their entry fee for the Owen Sound Subaru Bayshore Race, there are 2 options available;
1) you'll be contacted the organizers and offered a full refund
or 2) you can leave your registration fee as a donation to the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation.
I like Option 2.
I'm Fred Wallace
