Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
It's a big week ahead for the community of Meaford.
On the grand scale, the Scarecrow Festival reaches a climax on Friday.
There's judging of entries in the afternoon
There's the annual parade along Sykes Street in the evening
& then the Family Festival follows at the Pavilion
Having been to the Scarecrow Family Festival on occasion, trust me, it's a great evening.
From a sporting standpoint this week, there's a couple of interesting items pertaining to Meaford.
The Knights of Meaford open their Junior Hockey season when they travel to Alliston to face the New Tecumseth Civics.
It's notable that while Meaford will be making their debut for the season, the Civics will be playing their 7th game of the year.
The Knights then get a week off.....and go right back to New Tecumseth the following Thursday
Such is the beauty of the GMHL.
And finally from a sports angle for Meaford, this Saturday is the annual Coyote Race presented by the Georgian Bay Coyotes.
It's an active, bustling & fun sequence of 8 races through the morning that serves as a showcase for the Coyotes and a primer for the Elementary Cross Country season.
Speaking of which, the highlight event for the Cross Country season will be the Ontario Championships which will be run on the same course at Meaford, centered at Georgian bay Community School, on Saturday October 27th.
Have a great week.
I'm Fred Wallace
