Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
As always, there's a lot of things on the go in our region, so let's take one look back and one look ahead.
Looking back, the 2018 Special Olympics Summer Games at Antigonish, Nova Scotia wrapped up about 10 days ago.
Four members of the Owen Sound Otters competed and turned in exceptional performances.
Jessica Belrose won Gold in 50 metre Backstroke, won 2 Silvers in 25 Free & 25 back, plus 2 more gold medals in the 4 x 25 freestyle and 4 x 50 freestyle relays.
AJ Brand won a Gold medal in the 200 Back, and a Silver medal in the 100 Back.
Jamie-Lee Ward won Gold in the 200 metre freestyle, plus a Bronze in 100 Freestyle.
& Jonathan Wardrop had a personal best in all his events in the pool.
Good for the Otters.
Now looking ahead, tomorrow at the Wiarton Golf Club, the Nationals Fastball team are staging a tournament, less of a competitive affair and more of a fundraiser to assist in their upcoming junket, also to Nova Scotia, for the Softball Canada Men's Championship.
The Nationals who compete in the Bluewater Fastball League, have enhanced their roster with 4 players from the region; Pitchers Caleb Keeshig & Dustin Veenhof. outfielder Blake Underwood & Ty Sebastian who can throw and hit with equal impact- that's 4 prominent additions.
And they'll be needed.
The tournament begins August 29th and Wiarton will play twice a day for 3 days leading to the playoff round on Labour Day Weekend.......which is coming quickly
Have a great weekend.
I'm Fred Wallace
