Ground Hog Day & Curling

By Fred Wallace

Happy Groundhog Day especially to those of you in Wiarton & South Bruce Peninsula.

We've always been proud of Willie and hopefully he'll do us proud with his prediction.

While we're watching Willie, curling fans are focused on 2 Ontario centers.

In Sault Ste Marie. the Scotties Tournament of Hearts is well underway.

Ontario & PEI share the lead are at 4 & 1.

And in Napanee, the opening day of the Ontario Men's Tankard was yesterday.

The Tara Curling Club skipped by Mark Bice went 0 & 2 on the opening day.

In the back & forth opener, Joseph Frans of Thornhill edged Tara 8-7

In the nightcap of day 1, Glenn Howard from the Coldwater Curling Club scored 4 in the 9th in a 9-6 win over Tara.

Today, the Bice rink opens 2 pm against Chris Gardener of Arnprior and then has a 7 pm date with jay Young of Brantford.

One other curling note on Ground Hog Day....congratulations to the Jenna Mason rink from Grey Highlands Secondary School at Flesherton and the Liz Potter rink from Chesley District

Both the Lions & Cougars  now advance to the Ontario School Girls Championships at St Thomas later this month.

Happy Ground Hog Day
