Tonight's game at Guelph is a huge Ontario Hockey League contest for both the Storm and the Owen Sound Attack.
Sure, in some OHL circles they'll look down their noses at a matchup between the # 8 & # 9 teams in the Western Conference, but for the Attack and the Storm, this is big.
For Guelph, after rearranging the deck chairs in terms of deals over the weekend, they start the night 7 points back of the Attack for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
And while that might appear to be a comfortable margin for Owen Sound, Guelph does have 3 games in hand, so a win tonight in Guelph and victories in the games in hand would allow the Storm to by pass the Attack. Again.
And that's why tonight is huge for Owen Sound.
1) they can put Guelph 9 points back and the game in hand become almost irrelevant.
2) the Attack could take a major step towards finishing ahead of Guelph, which hasn't happened many times, I think just once, in the last 15 years.
3) Owen Sound has failed time and time again over the last year to win the crucial game with Conference position on the line. Tonight is another chance
And finally, the Attack have not won at Guelph in more than 2 years.
True, the Storm are in a desperate situation, but make no mistake this game is just as big, maybe bigger, for the Owen Sound Attack.
