All Is Calm.....

By Fred Wallace

It was a peaceful winter day yesterday, as far as the Owen Sound Attack were concerned.

Only days after disheartening performances against Guelph and Kingston, the team's fan club, the Attack Pak, held their annual Christmas Dinner with Santa & the players.

It's always a nice night and serves as a gentle reminder to players & staff, family, billets & friends, that there are more significant things than OHL Hockey.

The mood was upbeat, especially with the news release from the Attack office that the game Saturday against Oshawa was going to be Merry ' Hish 'mas Night marking the return of Joey Hishon from injury.

All very warm, all very cozy.

And I hate to be the one to spoil the atmosphere, but Christmas is 9 full days away and between then and now, the Attack have a home & home series with the Oshawa Generals, winners of 7 in a row.

I know the Attack are every bit as good, actually better on paper, than the 4 teams directly in front of them in the Western Conference.

But I'm also a realist, and only blind loyalty would lead me to tell you that based on the first 36 games of the year, Owen Sound deserves to be higher in the standings.

We're 8th in the Western Conference, likely because we've played more games than anyone else, and the most honest pre-Christmas sentence I can deliver is to say the Attack deserve to be 8th.

Will Owen Sound remain 8th, or worse.

Let's sweep Oshawa, open the real Christmas presents and see what can be mustered in the final 30 games following Christmas.

I'm Fred Wallace
