There was an abundance of lacrosse news that came bouncing in last week.
The biggest news was generated by the Owen Sound Bluewater Pro Team NorthStars Junior B Lacrosse Club.
The NorthStars, after a prolonged delay to examine candidates, have selected Shawn Kazarian to be their head coach effective 2010.
Kazarian will take over the post from Ronnie Smith, under whom Kazarian served as an assistant over the past few summers.
Smith, along with a threesome who headed the Owen Sound Bantams last year, all received lengthy consideration before the NorthStars elected to go with Kazarian as coach.
Kazarian's resume is as prominent as his family name, a name that has been connected to the sport in the city for more than 6 decades dating back to his famous grandfather.
Shawn Kazarian follows his grandfather & father into the head coaching ranks and with his experience as a player and as an assistant coach, along with the historical ties to the sport and community, the NorthStars have every confidence in his ability to take the NorthStars deeper into the playoffs.
Quickly at the Senior level, the Owen Sound van Dolder Home Team Woodsmen will not face Ajax-Pickering next year as they're moving up to Major, but entering the Ontario Senior League will be a new team based out of Huntsville.
There's 4 months and 3 days before the NorthStars play their season opener, but the wheels of lacrosse are already in motion.
