Ontario Rodeo Championship

Sandwiched among the interest in the President's Cup, the Attack Training Camp, the all trot night at Hanover this weekend, is the Ontario Rodeo Championships near Holstein.

The " A BAR K " Ranch is hosting the provincial rodeo championship which is being presented by Mount Forest Minor Hockey.

Competition in the 10 disciplines will be staged Saturday & Sunday at the venue which is also the site for the annual Holstein Rodeo.

Al Foster, a former provincial steer wrestling champion, relates the difference between the Ontario Rodeo Finals and the Holstein Rodeo is that this weekend is more about competition and far less about socializing.

Over the course of 20 Ontario Rodeos, the top 7 competitors in each of the ten events has qualified to compete for the Ontario title this weekend.

The ten events range from steer riding to barrel racing and beyond.

The competition will feature a couple of strong performers from our region, athletes like Denise Ruddell from Hopeville & Dan McGyver who lives at the " A BAR K " ranch.

Foster expects close to 1,400 fans to attend the event which begins tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm and continues Sunday at 1 pm
