Owen Sound Police say they have arrested a man after a call about a man brandishing a what appeared to be a handgun downtown this weekend.
Police say they were called at about 6 Saturday morning (Oct 3rd) about a man in the downtown core who was allegedly brandishing a handgun.
Police say in a media release, “The concerned and rightfully scared citizen reporting the incident to police dispatch advised that the individual was yelling and had the gun pointed at his own head.”
Police say they located the man in the 700 block of 1st Avenue East where he was taken into custody without incident.
Police say the 28-year-old Owen Sound resident was found to be heavily under the influence of alcohol with a handgun concealed in his rear waist band.
They say he was also found to be wearing a light body armour vest / ballistic vest. The handgun was later determined to be a black BB gun designed to look like a 9mm handgun.
Police say he now faces criminal charges of carrying an imitation weapon “for the purpose dangerous to public peace” and carrying a concealed weapon.
