Culture Days in Barrie kicks off today.
The event is extending beyond the traditional annual weekend to a more inclusive and interactive four-week schedule of activities, which will run until October 25th.
Culture Days invites everyone in the city to participate in and show appreciation for arts and culture in their own communities and nationwide.
As part of the Economic Recovery Plan, the City has collaborated with the Downtown Barrie BIA to bring Culture Days programming to Open Air Dunlop, the pedestrianization of a part of Dunlop Street. Dunlop Street East will be closed to vehicle traffic from Mulcaster Street to Clapperton Street for four Saturdays (morning until midnight) beginning September 26. The public is welcome to bike or walk along the street to check out the downtown’s newly constructed streetscape, visit a local patio or shop, and discover local artists and their works!
In an effort to keep the community safe, this year’s Culture Days programming will take place online, through self-guided exploration, and as passive experiences. Strict COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed as is required by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.
