You can walk the red carpet like a movie star on Oscar night.
The United Way of Bruce-Grey is hosting its Third Annual Awards Night at the Movies at the Galaxy Cinemas in Owen Sound.
Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says the United Way of Canada is the only organization to get approval from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to show the ceremony on the big screen.
She says the idea was first brought to her three years ago by Galaxy General Manager Jon Mulder.
She says they also partner with CTV to show the live feed.
But Dobbyn says it’s more than just coming in to watch the Oscars — it’s a fun night for locals to get dressed up too.
She says they roll out the red carpet and stream the entrances live to the big screen, so you can see everyone coming into the Galaxy in Owen Sound that night.
There are even red carpet hosts and paparazzi.
Dobbyn says a big part of this night is possible because the Galaxy donates the time and venue, bottomless pop and popcorn, and a number of other members of the community donate time and services.
As a result, she says their overheads are minimal and almost 100 per cent of each 25 dollar ticket goes back into local programming for kids.
The past two events have managed to bring in about three-thousand to four-thousand dollars each time.
There is also a silent auction with memorabilia from the movie studios, and various prizes donated by local businesses.
The party starts at 7:30 PM on Sunday.
