Simcoe County councillors have given initial approval to cut the size of county council.
At the moment , there are 32 members.
The plan is to reduce that to 17 , which includes a full-time appointed warden.
The 16 councillors would be the mayors of the member municipalities.
The issue has to go to a public meeting before final approval by the county, and then be given the green light by the individual councils of member municipalities.
It’s hoped all of that will be in place in time for the next election in 2026.
