Saugeen Shores’ Chief of Police is thanking the community after a strong response to a holiday fundraising event.
The “Dinner by Donation” fundraiser was held at Southampton Golf & Country Club this past weekend and attendees contributed more than 75 gift cards worth over $2,000.
Roote’s Gas Bar also chipped in a $5,000 donation to the fundraising event, which will help support food banks in Saugeen Shores and Saugeen First Nation.
“It truly warms my heart to see so many attend in support of such a great cause,” Saugeen Shores Police Chief Kevin Zettel says in a statement. “The event was sold out and everyone that attended ‘paid’ by way of a gift card (donation) of their choosing.”
Some of the gift cards collected through the Dinner by Donation event will be retained by Saugeen Shores Police in its Contingency Fund, Zettel says. Saugeen Shores Police keeps an inventory of gift cards to hand out to those in need of a warm meal or clothing, in order to help bridge gaps until social services can help with ongoing support.
“Everyone came together for a great cause, and it’s through these efforts that we’ll be able to make a difference,” Zettel adds. “Sincere thanks to everyone for your generosity, your time, and your commitment in support of a stronger, healthier community this holiday season and the year ahead.”
