Over $185,000 was donated by the community Thursday during the ninth annual Light The Way radiothon at 97.9 The Bruce in Port Elgin.
The event raises money for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, a registered charity that raises and manages money for new equipment at the hospital in Southampton. It’s one of five hospital foundations in Grey Bruce that support Brightshores Health Services.
Donations will help ensure our professionals have the needed medical equipment to continue their good work, saving lives and keeping quality healthcare close to home.
The hospital foundation says on its website, “Supporting our local healthcare is more crucial than ever. Donations to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation ensure our hospital has the resources it needs to provide top-quality care right here in our community. We rely on your generosity to fund vital equipment, expand services, and keep healthcare close to home. Your donation makes a real impact on the lives of your neighbours, friends, and loved ones.”
Every year, the hospital foundation needs to raise $2 million.
This year, money raised is earmarked for new crash carts in the emergency department, a negative pressure room, an accessible shower and medical fridges.
