Bruce County Council is going to elect a new warden and deputy warden this week as it meets for the inaugural meeting of the 2024-2025 term of council.
Bruce County Warden Chris Peabody says he is not seeking re-election after having served as warden for the past two years.
“I felt that I achieved a lot in the two years I was there and it was time for me to step aside and let somebody else do the job. I think we have got a great collaborative team on county council and I know there will be a seamless transition,” says Peabody.
Peabody adds he will be nominating Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau for the role of warden, and there is also a nomination for Huron-Kinloss Mayor Don Murray to assume the role of deputy warden.
“I know that Mayor Charbonneau and I are closely aligned. We, for example, serve on several other boards together in the region, we have worked very close together, we have travelled to France on a trade mission, we have got a great bond,” says Peabody. “We will continue pushing away at the engagement with the nuclear sector, making sure that Bruce County benefits from the nuclear sector, making sure that we take care of affordable housing, and continue to work away at the Indigenous Engagement Framework.”
Looking back on his time as warden, Peabody says the county has made some great accomplishments.
“We made some good strides on affordable housing and promoting things like alternative dwelling units and providing funding for that and incentives, as well as the county’s Indigenous Engagement Plan with Saugeen Ojibway Nation,” says Peabody.
The inaugural meeting is set for Dec. 5 and 9:30 a.m.
