South Bruce OPP say they’ve laid charges after what they describe as a hate motivated incident on a school bus in Arran-Elderslie.
Police say last Wednesday (Nov. 20), at about 4:45 in the afternoon they received a report of an altercation between two students on the bus.
OPP say the accused brandished an edged weapon and used racial slurs towards the victim.
A 17 year old was arrested and is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, intimidation and public incitement of hatred
Police note in a statement, “The OPP does not tolerate or condone acts of hate against a person or property based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion or religious dress, sex, age, mental or physical disability, or sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. These grounds are referenced in the Criminal Code of Canada and the Ontario Human Rights Code.”
