Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Alex Ruff is hosting an information session for employers who want to apply for the Canada Summer Jobs program.
The federal program provides student wage subsidies to successful applicant business and organizations. Its deadline is a month earlier than usual. You can apply now. The deadline is December 19th at 11:59 a.m.
The application process can be complicated, and requires employers to demonstrate commitment to a number of criteria, including providing quality work experiences for youth, opportunities for them to develop skills and improving access to the labour market for youth who face unique barriers.
Filling it out incorrectly will mean applicants won’t be approved.
“It’s a very competitive program,” says Ruff, adding, “The federal government has changed the national priorities–tweaked them every year that I’ve been a member of parliament, so you need to write to that.” He notes, there are organizations that may be very deserving of the subsidy, but if the application isn’t completed properly, Service Canada may not allocate the points needed.
Ruff will be hosting a virtual employer information session with Service Canada on December 5th.
He’s encouraging Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound businesses and organizations interested in employing youth for Summer 2025 to register for the event.
During the virtual session, Service Canada representatives will provide an overview of the application process followed by a question-and-answer period.
