Huron County will be receiving some financial help for the Gibbons Street housing project.
Bruce Power Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President James Scongack announced the donation for $1 million during Wednesday’s county council meeting.
When announcing the pledge, Scongack said that Warden Glen McNeil had once told him that the county was tasked with raising the million dollars for the development during a discussion, and said that it was an easy choice to make.
The Gibbons Street project will be a 40-apartment building that will include supportive housing and rent-geared-to-income units to help alleviate the county’s homeless population. It’s currently under construction and is set to be open to residents by the winter of 2026.
The complete Gibbons Street development is expected to have a final cost of $13.2 million.
