The living wage in Huron and Perth counties has risen to $23.05 an hour.
The wage was calculated by the United Way of Perth-Huron, by gathering expenses for three types of households:
- Two adults supporting two small children
- A single parent
- A single adult
The $23.05 hourly living wage for 2024 is up from $22.75 last year.
United Way officials say the federal government’s $10 a day childcare is helping slow the upward pressure on wages, but food and housing costs continue to be major stressors.
A living wage is calculated by the Ontario Living Wage Network to show how much a worker must earn per hour to make ends meet where they live.
