A five year dispute over unauthorized shoreline work in Grand Bend has ended with fines against the landowners.
It was in 2019 neighbours to a property in the Beach O’ Pines area complained about construction along a shoreline wall.
Investigation revealed the property owners hired a contractor to excavate the beach and sand dune and place armour stone blocks and stone material on the beach in front of the three properties in 2019, all without the permission of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA).
The work was in contravention to the Conservation Authorities Act, with the landowners pleading guilty in late 2022.
Fines totalling $15 thousand were imposed at a sentencing hearing in Provincial Offences Court.
The imposed fines are in addition to $13,500 in fines imposed on the contractor.
