The annual Festival of Northern Lights is set to go this weekend in Owen Sound.
Festival Board Chair Jamie Walpole says before they flip the switch, there will be an opening ceremony at the Farmers’ Market this Saturday at 6 p.m. following the Santa Claus parade.
He says the ceremony will feature hot chocolate and cookies, as well as a dance party. The lights will then be turned on at 7 p.m.
Additionally, the River District’s Holiday Magic event will be running from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., which includes outdoor seating, fire tables, photos with Santa, contests, giveaways, specials, and sales at local businesses.
“We have got a few new displays this year which seem to be animal based. We have a couple new swans down at Harrison Park, a new snake and a dolphin and seal which are playing with a ball. So some new exciting displays set up downtown and in Harrison Park,” says Walpole.
He says they have been seeing a growing number of people attend the event the last number of years.
“I think the festival means a lot to a lot of people so we continue to see continued attendance and strong numbers and a lot of excitement,” says Walpole.
People can catch the displays nightly until Jan. 5.
