Another season of sailing between Tobermory and Manitoulin Island is over for the MS Chi-Cheemaun.
The passenger ferry made its final scheduled run of the year Sunday evening, and is now set to head to its winter berth in Owen Sound Monday.
According to the Owen Sound Transportation Company, the Chi-Cheemaun is expected to arrive in the Owen Sound Harbour around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon.
“Bring celebratory noisemakers, flags, and pompoms,” a release from the Owen Sound Transportation Company says. “We love a warm reception!”
The Owen Sound City Band is also set to perform in the harbour from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, as part of the reception for the Chi-Cheemaun.
Then on Tuesday, the ship’s marine evacuation system will be deployed for training and recertification purposes.
“This exercise is part of Owen Sound Transportation Company’s ongoing commitment to safety and emergency preparedness. The purpose of the exercise is to practice deploying evacuation equipment and response tactics,” the Owen Sound Transportation Company explains in a statement. “Marine Navigation and Engineering cadets from Georgian College will be participating as passengers as the marine evacuation system slide is deployed and the zodiac tows the raft to shore.”
Everyone is welcome to watch those activities between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday. The best place to view the action is from the east harbour wall.
