Grey Highlands is applying for grant funding for upgrades to the Flesherton and District Arena.
Council approved submitting a $300,000 proposal to the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund during a meeting on Sept. 18.
This comes after the fund was announced during the recent Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference, which is designed to repair and rehabilitate existing facilities, and support new facility construction.
Municipal Services Assistant Bobbi Scully says in a report with the recent completion of the Recreation Master Plan and Building Condition Assessment, staff have identified significant upcoming recreation-related expenses.
“Among the sport facilities considered, the Flesherton and District Arena has been identified as the most suitable candidate for this funding opportunity. We recommend submitting a proposal for a project outline totalling $600,000,” says the report. “The Building Condition Assessment Report indicates that the Flesherton and District Arena will require up to $390,000 in maintenance and upgrades by 2026.”
The work includes improvements to the refrigeration equipment, upgrades to sanitary waste piping, floor coating, domestic water distribution, and fire suppression system.
Grey Highlands will be covering the remaining $300,000 needed for the project.
