A couple is describing a scary moment during a hike on Spirit Valley Trail in Bognor.
In a Facebook post thanking the Inter Township Fire Department, they say just before 6 Monday evening they were hiking the trail when their dog Nala leapt over a fence.
The post says, “Following her leap, a devastating silence ensued, and we were heartbroken to discover that Nala had fallen into a well, where she remained alone for about an hour and a half.”
The Inter Township Fire Department responded and used an extraction tripod to secure the ropes used to lower Firefighter Jason Redmond into the 25-foot well, strap in the dog and then both the firefighter and the dog were pulled from the well.
The couple says they’re profoundly relieved and grateful for the positive outcome, but are also warning others to be aware of fencing. They say they’d appreciate the addition of warning signs around the hazard.
