The Town of Saugeen Shores wants to know what kinds of programs the community wants in the soon to be built aquatic and wellness centre in Port Elgin.
An online survey is open until Sunday, August 4th.
On the online feedback page, there is an interactive map of the facility that shows descriptions of each planned room.
For example, the pool is described as “8-lane, 25 metre lane pool equipped with ramped entry, climbing wall and Tarzan rope. Pool can also be accessed by lift.” There would also be a smaller leisure pool with a bench, jets and a water spraying feature.
There are male and female change rooms as well as universal change rooms.
The fitness studio is described as being “equipped with a cushioned floor and designed for classes, personal training and open, flexible training space. A moveable wall can open the studio to the conditioning centre creating added flexibility.”
The conditioning centre is a weight and cardio equipment gym. The gymnasium would have courts lined for badminton, basketball, volleyball and pickleball, as well as a three-lane indoor track.
There are two multi-purpose rooms that open onto a patio in the design, that could used for programs and rented out for meetings or events.
The survey asks what programs and equipment people would like to see in the centre in terms of aquatics, recreation, fitness, leisure, STEM (science, technology, engineering & math), and general activities. Examples of STEM programming given by the Town are building and coding programs, science nature or exploration programs or clubs and groups.
Some membership ideas include an aquatic membership, with access to the pools and programming, an all inclusive that would provide access to everything, a track membership, family memberships and member discount programs, or financial assistance programs.
