Grey County is moving ahead with a land purchase from West Grey for a new paramedic base in Durham.
County council approved a recommendation in committee of the whole at its meeting May 23 to have staff finalize the acquisition for $150,000.
A by-law still needs to be approved to formalize the decision.
The property the county is purchasing near Chester Street and Grey Road 4 in Durham would see the new new paramedic services base located next to a new West Grey police station set to be built as well.
A county staff report says the total cost for Grey County’s new paramedic facility in Durham is $3-million.
Meaford mayor and county councillor Ross Kentner asked if there’s been any analysis of what impact South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s planned relocation of 10 inpatient beds from the Durham Hospital would have on the county’s new paramedic base.
Grey County CAO Kim Wingrove says the county’s external consultant looked at it and assured “Durham is the right place for this base.”
“No matter what happens, this is the place,” Wingrove says.
