Saugeen Shores police are say there’s a growing concern about dogs running around off-leash in the community, and they’re going to be issuing tickets.
Police say in a social media post, in 2023 they focused on educating the community on local animal control bylaws, but they say this year, they’re still getting multiple reports of owners not following the rules.
They say the fine for failing to keep one’s dog on a leash in bylaw 36-2005 Sec 11 is $135.
Police say, “Due to the growing concern of dogs off leash, officers will be conducting focused patrols and issuing tickets to dog owners failing to abide by local bylaws. If you are in violation of these bylaws you will be required to identify yourself and may be issued a ticket.”
They add, “Please keep your dog on a leash and under control when walking them in public,” noting it applies to all dogs regardless of how well trained they may be.
The Town has an off-leash dog park at 961 Lehnen Street in Port Elgin.
