Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers was able to congratulate Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce for the work that’s been done for families of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation.
The recognition follows a Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation worth $62,800 that was awarded in 2023.
The grant allowed Habitat to purchase a dedicated vehicle that was used to deliver repairs to families from both Saugeen First Nation and Neyaashiinigmiing.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s grant has enabled Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce to provide an opportunity for individuals to thrive through innovative housing solutions.
In a media release, Byers also gave recognition to Colin Hokea, who grew up in a Habitat home and is now completing his electrical apprenticeship with the very affiliate that supported his own family over two decades ago.
Hokea has been an integral part of the Habitat Grey Bruce team his entire life. He started out volunteering at build sites, then joined the ReStore team as a customer sales representative Since 2022, he’s been performing electrical installations in new Habitat homes and undertaking critical repair projects.
