Owen Sound police say just seven minutes after its delivery, a package was stolen by a porch pirate in Owen Sound.
City police say it was delivered to the front porch of a west side home on Friday afternoon, where it was stolen just minutes after.
They say with the help of a residential security camera, officers were able to identify a 39- year-old Owen Sound woman as the suspect. They conducted a check of the area and located and arrested the woman who they say, still had the stolen package in her possession.
Police say the stolen items were returned to the victim and the accused was charged with theft and possession of property obtained by crime.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court in May.
Owen Sound Police say they have received reports of similar thefts of delivered packages in increasing numbers in what appears to be an emerging trend.
They are offering some tips to help you protect your parcels, including installing visible and or covert cameras, using a front porch lock box, requesting that packages require a signature at delivery or having packages delivered to your workplace if possible.
