Hanover police are warning people about a scam that involves a false Publishers Clearing House lottery prize.
Police chief Chris Knoll says officers receive reports almost daily about fraudsters trying to scam people out of their hard earned money.
Knoll says earlier this week, a scammer called an unsuspecting resident to tell them they won $8 million through Publishers Clearing House. In order to collect the prize, they needed to send in $1,000 in iTunes cards immediately.
Knoll says not to send the money or gift cards.
He adds, “We know others will be contacted again with that same scam or other scams designed to take your money. Be ready for that phone call, email, or text message and make sure to tell others to be on the ready too.”
