Northern Bruce Peninsula is receiving an update to a new proposed cell tower.
Council heard from Shared Tower Inc. Senior Planning Manager Chyenne Zierler during a meeting on Feb. 12, detailing the proposed 90 meter tower on Lindsay Road 40, which would improve service around Dyer’s Bay.
“Our goal is to build infrastructure that in the right spot promotes co-location, so that will in turn reduce the amount of infrastructure required in an area and we have successfully built these sites across the country as well as working with municipalities in the area as well,” says Zierler.
This is the latest after tower location discussions and consultations with municipal staff began in June 2022. The municipality has a 21-day response timeframe to the proposed project, which comes to an end next week.
She says by establishing a new tower, they will be able to help connect everyday devices to wireless services.
“There are many different uses for the wireless network, which makes it even more crucial that infrastructure is in place in order to provide that support for these devices. Some of these examples include emergency services, hospitals, schools, location services, and payment systems. Allowing everyone to have access to a basic coverage is necessary in this day and age,” says Zierler.
Shared Tower recently wrapped up a 44-day commenting period on Jan. 26 where they received questions relating to health and safety, existing infrastructure, and preserving dark sky.
“The community benefits from this infrastructure, not only from being provided with basic coverage by strengthening the wireless network, but it essentially creates more support to enhance opportunities, encourage further economic growth, support tourism, and also for the existing community and existing businesses,” says Zierler.
She says a justification report will be submitted on the proposed tower.
