The Grey Bruce OPP are providing boots to people in need in Honduras.
OPP Constable Krista Linthorne says John Genereaux, one of their civilian guards, who also belongs to an organization called Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministries in Honduras, asked the OPP if they would contribute in donating.
“He explained they wear, when they are working out in the field, shoes similar to our Crocs,” says Linthorne.
Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational, Christian organization which addresses the needs of underprivileged people in Roatan, Honduras.
Genereaux and 16 members of Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministries went on a missionary trip to Honduras from Jan. 8 to the 15, in which they delivered suitcases full of used OPP issued police boots to a drug rehabilitation centre.
Linthorne says overall, the OPP was able to donate over 30 pairs of boots which will be given to community members.
“It’s important to donate to places around the world. We have excess supply here and so it’s nice to give to another country that doesn’t have the same supplies that we do,” says Linthorne.
