Wasaga Beach Mayor Brian Smith has issued a statement on the passing of former Town Councillor, Stan Wells.
You can read it below:
“Rest in Peace, Stan Wells.
It is with a heavy heart that I offer my thoughts and condolences on the passing of former Wasaga Beach Councillor, Stan Wells.
It is never easy to hear of the passing of a friend or former colleague, or member of our community.
Stan Wells was an active member of our community.
His roots in Wasaga Beach are deep, having lived in Wasaga Beach for over 45 years.
He served our community during his 30-year career with the Ministry of Education and then in his 12-year tenure at Oxbow Park/Worsley Elementary School. In fact, he was one of my teachers!
Stan also served an impressive four terms on Wasaga Beach Town Council.
His sense of humour and “agree to disagree agreeably” approach to problem-solving and public service made him someone I enjoyed speaking with and working with.
As Mayor, I respect that he often said, “I believe we are a town with a tourism industry, not a tourist town.” During his time on Council, he felt strongly that we must focus our energies and resources on permanent and seasonal residents and businesses while promoting tourism. We agreed on many things, and this is one of them.
We also saw eye to eye on the importance of family – which he spoke of often – and the great potential of our beautiful beachfront community. Stan’s passion, ideas, and the time he spent giving back to this community are what I will remember most.
On behalf of Council and the Town of Wasaga Beach, our heartfelt condolences go out to Mrs. Wells and her family during this very difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.”
