The Town of Saugeen Shores has adopted its new strategic plan for this term of council.
The town approved the strategic plan, which stretches until 2027 during its meeting on Nov. 27.
It follows months of consultations with residents to determine how the community sees itself and the direction it wants council to take.
The new plan is based off four pillars, meeting the needs of a growing community, building the best municipal team, building valued relationships, and fostering a vibrant place to live and visit.
The plan aims to diversify and grow the town’s housing stock, attract and retain top quality talent, drive a culture of continuous improvement, establish strong relationships with First Nations communities, and welcome new residents and their talents.
Crafting the strategic plan began right after the 2022 election, where the town looked at the previous strategic plan and built on it using the feedback from residents and community partners.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says this plan is an expression of their vision for the municipality.
“Not only does it help council to structure our business plans for each fiscal year, but it also allows us to manage long term growth in a way that improves the lives of citizens,” says Charbonneau.
CAO Kara Van Myall adds the document is essential to how the town functions.
“Knowing council’s overall priorities allows staff to focus its efforts – along with town resources – to fulfill this council’s priorities efficiently and effectively. All our plans – including the upcoming business plan and budget – will flow out of our Strategic Plan,” says Myall.
Work on the 2024 business plan and budget are underway and a vote on the final proposed business plan will be held on Dec. 11, with the final approval in January 2024.
