A student from Owen Sound has won gold at the annual Ontario Colleges Marketing Competition.
First-year business student at Cambrian College Serenity Allen-Leeson attended the competition in Collingwood, held on Nov. 16 and 17.
Allen-Leeson won gold in the Entrepreneurship Case category along with her partner Jana Irvine, a second-year student in the same program.
Allen-Leeson says the category she competed in had her work with a partner to demonstrate the strengths of a business and how to make it more successful in front of a panel of judges.
“It was really good, my partner and I were pretty confident. Usually schools are given eight weeks to practise but I was actually a last minute addition so my partner and I only had a week to prepare for the competition,” says Allen-Leeson.
She says it was a cool experience to participate in as a first-year student and for her first year competing.
“All the other colleges that compete, they all come from marketing programs and Cambrian is the only school that send general business students. We are also the only school that sends first years. Everyone else we were competing against was all second years,” says Allen-Leeson.
She says she plans to attend the event again next year.
