Bruce Power is announcing the opening of its Community Hub and Bruce C Project Office in Saugeen Shores.
John Peevers, the Director of Community and Media Relations & Economic Development says that besides office space for employees, the new facility is an ideal place to allow members of the public to get information on nuclear development.
“I think it’s another really significant step forward, a space where we’re going to be able to work on some engagement with the community, which is really important for early dialogue as we explore the potential for expansion of capacity at the Bruce site.”
Earlier this year, the company announced that they were starting the exploratory process to consider the option of adding up to 4,800 MW of nuclear capacity.
“We certainly haven’t made any decisions…We’re just starting that really important engagement process with Indigenous communities, with the public, [and] local municipalities.”
The potential expansion, referred to as Bruce C, will conduct an impact assessment to consider the option of adding that capacity.
“We move at the pace and in the style that the community wants to, so that’s really what we’re hoping we can accomplish.”
Bruce Power will be holding a community information session on Sunday, November 19th, and another on December 10th from 1-4 p.m.
The sessions will allow people to learn more about nuclear power, and ask questions of staff, including Executive Vice-President and Chief Development Officer James Scongack, who is expected to also be present.
Members of the public can drop in for the engagement session, but anyone who wants to take a bus tour will need to register through brucepower.com
