An Owen Sound man and a Meaford woman are among nine people charged after a woman was allegedly kidnapped from a Mississauga nightclub this summer.
According to Peel Regional Police, a Toronto woman attended a club in the area of Britannia Road East and Dixie Road on Aug. 24, and she was then “kidnapped and forced into a stolen vehicle and held for 48 hours.”
Police say the victim was taken to several locations in Owen Sound, before being released in the Toronto area. She wasn’t hurt.
Yesterday, police confirmed nine people have been arrested and charged in connection to the alleged incident, including 31-year-old Jessica Proctor of Meaford and 46-year-old Darren McCann of Owen Sound. They were both charged with kidnapping, and the Meaford woman was also charged with forcible confinement.
The allegations against them have not been proven in court.
Police haven’t disclosed any information about what may have led to the apparent kidnapping, but did say they seized nearly $240,000 worth of drugs, two extended handgun magazines and ammunition after executing search warrants at several residences and vehicles in Owen Sound and throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
Owen Sound Police, Hanover Police, West Grey Police, the OPP, York Regional Police and Halton Regional Police also assisted with the investigation.
Another suspect in the alleged kidnapping — 22-year-old Karim Khairy of Mississauga — is still at large and wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.
