Trevor Bazinet — formerly Deputy Mayor — has been named the new Mayor of Goderich.
Town council met for a special meeting Wednesday to fill the vacant seat at the head of Town Hall, following the death last week of late mayor Myles Murdock.
Bazinet was appointed Mayor by unanimous vote.
The appointment leaves the Deputy Mayor role vacant, but council says a decision on whether to appoint that job — or hold a by-election — will be made at their September 5th meeting.
Murdock’s death came just one year after the death of Goderich’s late Mayor John Grace, who died in a boating accident in northern Ontario.
Following Murdock’s death, then Deputy Mayor Bazinet became Acting Mayor of Goderich, until Wednesday’s meeting of council, where he was formally appointed the top elected position.
