Hanover Police say two people are facing drug related charges after watching a driver slip in and out of consciousness.
Police say on June 30 at 4:20 p.m., officers observed a male slumped in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the 200 block of 9th Street in Hanover. The driver was seen nodding off with his foot on the brake, with the vehicle in drive.
Police say officers determined the suspect was driving while impaired by drugs and resulted in his arrest. The female passenger in the vehicle who obstructed officers during their investigation was also arrested.
Officers found and seized over an ounce of fentanyl, over an ounce of methamphetamine, several rounds of ammunition, knives, Canadian currency, digital scales, drug paraphernalia, and break-in tools, police say.
As a result, the 45-year-old Markdale man was held for a bail hearing and is charged with operation while impaired, obstructing a peace officer, possession of ammunition contrary to prohibition order, three counts of breaching a probation order, possessing stolen property, possessing break-in instruments, and two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking.
The 32-year-old Meaford woman was held and later released and is charged with obstructing a peace officer, careless storage of ammunition, and two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking.
