The South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) is planning temporary closures of the Durham Hospital Emergency Department this summer.
The SBGHC says hospitals across Canada and Ontario are facing staffing challenges and they are no exception.
“We are experiencing an ongoing shortage of physicians, nurses and other health care workers over the summer months. To ensure we are providing safe and quality care to our patients, we will be temporarily reducing overnight services at the Durham hospital emergency department this summer,” says the SBGHC in a release.
The emergency department at the Durham hospital will be closed overnight from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. on the following dates:
-June 24 to June 25
-June 29 to June 30
-June 30 to July 1
-July 1 to July 2
-July 2 to July 3
-July 8 to July 9
-July 9 to July 10
-July 15 to July 16
-July 16 to July 17
-July 22 to July 23
-July 23 to July 24
-July 29 to July 30
-July 30 to July 31
The SBGHC says if your needs are urgent or an emergency, proceed to the nearest open emergency department or call 911. Paramedics will remain available to the community and will re-route to the nearest available emergency department.
For non-urgent health care, call Health Connect Ontario at 811, which is available 24/7.
