The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) of Grey Bruce is holding a sweet fundraising event with Krispy Kreme.
CMHA Youth Awareness and Education Supervisor Jackie Ralph says they are partnering with Krispy Kreme for the first time for a fundraiser, which supports non-profits, in which people can pay $10 for a dozen of donuts.
“It was kind of the brain child of one of our Youth Awareness staff members, who is also one of the organizers behind the Defeat Depression Walk that happens every year,” says Ralph. “So we booked the fundraiser, we took the only day they had left for 2023, which is Jan. 11.”
After having launched the online fundraiser Jan. 3, Ralph says as of Jan. 4, they are about two thirds sold out and expect to sell out by the end of the day, as they are only selling 300 dozen donuts.
“It’s just been really great how much people are excited about it, and the fact that we put it online yesterday (Jan. 3), it has just been incredible,” says Ralph.
Ralph says as the organization makes $5 off each dozen of donuts sold, if they sell all 300, they would raise $1,500. She adds in addition to the donations also given through the website they are using for people to place their orders, they are looking at raising over $2,000, which will go to support CMHA services.
“Our Youth Awareness programs are completely community funded. We have four staff members that are out and about at any one time,” says Ralph. “We talk as a collective, the four of us to do 600 presentations a year to over 20,000 people a year in Grey Bruce, which is all community funded. This is just part of that fundraising we do every year.”
The donuts will be picked up from the Krispy Kreme office in Mississauga the morning of Jan. 11 and will be available for pick up between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the CMHA Grey Bruce office for those who reserved their donuts online.
