This year’s Owen Sound Festival of Northern Lights is fast approaching.
Chairman of the Board for the festival, Jamie Walpole, says there will be 230 displays of lights this year.
He also says that they’re looking forward to this year’s festival, and carrying on the tradition co-founded by his grandmother Marie Walpole, who passed away in late August.
“It was near and dear to her heart for many, many years, and even in the last little while when she wasn’t physically able to go, we would take her pictures and video of it be delightful. She was such a believer in Owen Sound and the community and it really meant a lot to her that it’s continued on as long as it has and keeps getting stronger and stronger.”
The festival starts on Saturday, November 19th with an opening celebration including entertainment starting at 6 o’clock, fireworks at 7 o’clock, and then the official lighting of the lights.
Walpole says that if you’re planning to take in the light displays, you can either walk or drive, adding, “To get the best experience, it’s best to walk around downtown and at Harrison Park. You really get a really nice view of the lights when you’re outside of a car.”
This year’s festival runs from November 19th until January 8th, and the lights will be on every night between 5 and 10.
