The new mayor of Georgian Bluffs says she’s looking forward to the new term of council.
Sue Carleton, who was elected mayor on October 24, says she’d like to have council try and fix a few items that have been needing attention for quite some time, namely the Pottawatomi Water System, among others.
“We heard a lot of questions from the users of the Oxenden system and the Shallow Lake [water] system, so it’s something council needs to take a serious look at. I’ve already talked to the CAO and she’s on board with it.”
Carleton also says that she’s hoping to have one-on-ones with members of council so they can find common ground and understand each other’s goals.
She also says that hopefully, the new term of council will put the wheels in motion to upgrade local community centres.
“I think we’ve got enough big projects; we’re going to have staff extremely busy. Some of the things that I’d like to see is [with] the Kemble Community Centre and the Kilsyth Community Centre is to have those upgraded and maybe change the focus of them.”
She says that she was anxious about this election campaign, as she had had bilateral knee surgery and wasn’t able to go door-to-door to meet voters, but had good success online.
Carleton says that she feels good to have gotten “quite a strong vote of confidence” from voters.
