The Owen Sound Legion is paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II by holding a memorial service at the city cenotaph.
The service started at 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 19, and Legion President Ed Yates says the service resembled a Remembrance Day event.
“Being that she is our head of state in Canada, with her passing we have to do something to honour her life and service,” says Yates. “Above all else, she was also a veteran as well as being our sovereign. We are honouring both of those services today.

The service included the singing of O Canada, a moment of silence, and the laying of a wreath.
Members from Owen Sound Fire took part in the event, as well as Mayor Ian Boddy who assisted in laying the wreath with Yates.
Boddy adds he feels the death of the monarch feels personal.
“The only queen all of us have ever known and we have seen her at so many things like the commonwealth games in Edmonton, and different visits and different tours, so it does feel kind of personal,” says Boddy.
The state funeral of the queen is being held today which drew royals and politicians, including Prime Minster Justin Trudeau.
The Wiarton and Hanover Legion branches had their own memorial services as well.
