Cyclists are to set descend on Saugeen Shores this weekend for the Gran Fondo Lake Huron.
More than 600 people are expected to be taking to the roads in the fundraising event for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, with cyclists departing from the big flag in Southampton between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
Riders will be cycling three different distances — 30km, 70km and 110 km — covering parts of the Lake Huron shoreline, and several Bruce County communities including Southampton, Port Elgin, Tiverton and Paisley.
The finish area for Gran Fondo Lake Huron is on High Street, near the Southampton Coliseum.
Event organizers are encouraging people to come out and support the riders along the routes Sunday. About 60 per cent of those taking part in the Gran Fondo are from out of town from areas like the Greater Toronto Area, and even as far away as England.
“Be sure to join us and give them a big Bruce County welcome,” Gran Fondo Lake Huron organizers say.
Drivers should also be aware that in most areas cyclists will be sharing the road with vehicular traffic.
