The Kincardine Municipal Airport is getting ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The airport will be having a small public event between 10 am and 2 pm on Saturday with a brief ceremony at 11 o’clock.
Stanley Pickles was involved in organizing the event, saying “This airport is a treasure for the community. I’m sure people go up and down [Highway] 21 and don’t they see much going on but it has been an important part of the community for more than 50 years now.”
He says that they’re a couple of years late celebrating thanks to COVID, so they’re happy to finally be able to mark the milestone.
The Kincardine Airport serves as a base for sightseeing, corporate jets, air ambulance services, and recreational pilots.
“It has served as a base for Search & Rescue, there have been conventions here. The Cessna 180 convention was here a few years ago, airshows… as well, it has served to introduce a lot of youth to aviation,” says Pickles.
The first 250 guests to Saturday’s event will also receive a gift bag.
