Former Owen Sound city councillor Bill Twaddle has passed.
He died Monday at the age of 74 with friends and family by his side at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital after a battle with cancer.
Twaddle worked for the Owen Sound Sun Times for more than 25 years, starting his journalism career as a reporter with the paper in 1968. He eventually became its editor in the early 1990s.
He then entered municipal politics as city councillor in Owen Sound from 1996-2014. During his time on council, Twaddle became chairman of Georgian Bay Energy and led negotiations for its sale to Hydro One. He also served on the Grey Bruce Board of Health and the Owen Sound Police Services Board.
Twaddle worked for Elections Canada as well, and spent 16 years with the Alzheimer Soceiety of Grey-Bruce.
Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy says “on behalf of my council colleagues, staff and the residents of the city, I offer my condolences to his family members and friends.”
The flags at Owen Sound City Hall will be lowered to half mast on Thursday in Twaddle’s honour.
